Just render the MIDI through the Virtual Instruments and I'll be done - I'll do that later

-Bump- My final Submission: P.E.MD - Submarine (Pokemon Emerald Medley) www.box.net/shared/gyua4kq12eThemes used: -Forest Theme - intro -Shoal Cave - :17 - :59 -Abandoned Ship - :59 - 2:09 -Dive theme - 2:09 - 2:30 -Kyogre Battle Theme - 2:30 - 3:31 -Surf Theme - 3:31 - 3:53 My original concept was to do a montage of Cave/Dungeon type themes from Ruby/Saphire/Emerald but as I wrote it, I began noticing that I had been choosing mainly water themes so towards the end of riding it I decided to just do it fully on Water type areas (aside from the forest bit I used in the intro).

So question, how is the winner decided? Is there a vote? Or does AA go by who he thinks is the best?

In my opinion, I think he should set up a poll and let the members vote.

Well AA did make the contest, so I'd say it's up to him to decide

That would bring some major bias into play, tho. I mean, even though he did make the contest, I don't think one guy should decide who wins

It's called a Judge And actually, often a public poll is more biased then a single judge, especially among large communities - and even more so if there's a large quantity of people uneducated in music (who would most likely just pick the one that fits the "mass appeal" best - basically among a large population, if you enter 1 piece that's techno and 1 that's orchestral, chances are the techno piece will win as it has a greater mass appeal then the orchestral, even if the orchestral is written much better). The whole large population and large population of uneducated in music isn't exactly a huge problem, but I find a judge a more appropriate grading method.
Also note that with a judge, you also get better feedback as to judge, you often have to provide a form of judging describing in detail where the piece can be improved and where you may have messed up, a bit better feedback then "nice piece dude" or something like that, which you're more bound to get in public polls.

A single judge still can be biased towards his/her decision. Still, it's my opinion. I think a poll would be best and who says someone won't give feedback as to why he voted for the song he voted for and why he didn't vote for the other songs? It's all based on a matter of opinion and it isn't worth having a debate over, honestly. We'll just have to wait and see what AlmightyArceus says.

AA + some people who didn't participate could be the judges. A public poll is a good idea as well.

Most of the people on the forum here ARE musically knowldegeable. They know how to write songs and can distinguish between a good arrangement and a not-so-good one. 2. Not everybody prefers techno. I notice that the forum members here as a whole are also musically diverse in their musically stylings. Who's to say that more people like techno more than orchestral? 3. What makes a song good? Answer: whatever gives its listener pleasure. A song is good if it sounds good to its listener. Or at least the way I see it. Or perhaps we could have other judges besides AA. Or. . .maybe I'm making way too big of a deal about this XD
