Pokemon GaryGreen Hack:
Brought to you by Chao
This hack will take everything you thought you knew about Kanto and turn it upside down! Gary Oak thinks it's about time someone knew the "true story" of what happened in Kanto during that fateful year, and you're dragged along for the ride!
Littered with witty, humorous or even risque dialogue, knowing Kanto like the back of your hand wont save you here. In Gary's (Or Blue/Green if you rather) eyes, signs read differently, and people say different things. Leave no rock unturned, no sign unread, no trainer unbattled (of course if your a good RPG player you do this anyway).
He isn't afraid to leave out any of the nitty gritty or darker details of the story either. Why was he in the Pokemon Tower? Silph Co.? Who did he defeat to become the Champion? What happened to his dear Ratticate? It all unfurls before your eyes here.
Planned Features for the hack:
- Script Change: Almost every single bit of text will be changed. New text will be added to some familiar events as well.
- New Events: New events that are specific to the Rival's point of view.
- New Music: Sevii Islands sub-section will have more Johto music to suit the thematic area. Other new themes may pop in in other places too.
- Two Rivals: In addition to Red, the predictable rival of the story, Leaf will also appear to challenge you at various stages of the game.
- Surprise Champion: You'll never guess who they are before you reach them.
- Pokemon: All 386 Pokemon of GenIII will be accessible in one way or another. No Hacking, Nintendo Events or Trading required.
- Misc. Changes: Keep a sharp eye out for any other changes you might see. It's a meticulous task to track them all down, but it may reward you in the end...
Technical Details and Recruitment options:
Technically this is a very basic hack. It's mostly Text and Graphic hacking, the majority of which I can complete at my leisure, since the text and graphics hacking tools are very easy to manipulate and use effectively. The most advanced this could get is hacking the music and events. This is my first time working with the tools associated with this particular game. Though they are generally very user friendly and easy to use with some simple guides here and there, I still feel slightly uncomfortable with tackling the custom events quite yet. I also need to look into ways of hacking in new trainers. If anyone wants to volunteer and help out with that, It would be much appreciated, though at this point it's not necessary.
I'm disappointed with the primitive state Sappy is in atm, what with no effects, ASDR, or Mod/Vibrato LFO support, but it works for what I need it to.
A demo may become available in the near future if there's enough interest in it.
