No release dates for ANYTHING yet. That's a disappointment. There is, however, a TON of great news. So I'll go in order of the events.
Zelda's 25th Anniversary! In honor of this event, Nintendo is releasing Link's Awakening on the eShop later today. In addition, there will be a worldwide concert tour of (get pumped, fellow musicians) a fully symphonic night of Zelda tunes. This will also be released as a CD, as will the soundtrack to Ocarina of Time 3DS, which will be sent as a free gift to the lucky few who register their copy of the game soon enough on Club Nintendo.
Next, let's go to Nintendo 3DS. 5 games were discussed at this event. Mario Kart, StarFox 64 3DS, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Super Mario, and... LUIGI'S MANSION 2!
Mario Kart: Boasting no title as of yet, this crisp new Mario Kart game packs quite a punch. Loaded with not only customizable karts and past courses such as Luigi's Mansion and Maple Treeway, but also racetracks with specific part built for hangliders and underwater driving, this game is definitely going to be a must-buy
StarFox 64 3DS: Lots of numbers. Lots of fun. A remake of the classic StarFox title, this game packs great new features that make use of local wireless and the 3DS' camera in the battle mode, as well as the classic pathways full of twists and turns that will leave you playing again and again. Do a barrel roll!
Kid Icarus: Uprising: This game looks like a blast. With enough 3v3 multiplayer to keep you busy for hours, and a story that looks like it will be very interesting, I can't wait to see what's in store for this game. It also marks the return of a few (possibly) familiar faces. I haven't beaten any other games in the series, so I'm going to make sure I've got my facts right about the characters seen in the new trailer before I open my big fat mouth. I can say for certain, however... Pit sounds like a whiny little *****.
Super Mario: Simply titled Super Mario (whether this is a working title or official is beyond any of us), this game appears to be a great cross between 3D Mario games like Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy, and New Super Mario Bros., with a few extra features to keep us classic fans happy. *coughcoughtanookisuitcough*
Luigi's Mansion 2: I can honestly say I fully expected this, with everything they said about the first installment in the past. I did, however, completely forget about it while I was watching their presentation, and when I saw a dark room, I sat up in my chair. Then I saw a ghost and I quite literally jumped for joy. Though I'd have like to see the old ghost designs return, the new ones are interesting, and this game looks... Amazing. Apparently, there will also be more than one Mansion. Interesting.
Paper Mario: There was a trailer just uploaded by Nintendo, but for some reason, it wasn't shown. Interesting. Anyway, there isn't much shown here. It would, however, appear that the partner system has been ditched, which is very annoying. We can see Mario doing lots of things, including reading up on his opponents (which leads me to believe there are no partners), blowing them away with a fan, and cutting them up with scissors. Looks like a fun game.
More titles, like Tetris and some other were briefly shown, but nothing too interesting.
Now comes that part I'm sure you all want to hear about: The successor to the Wii.
The Wii U.
What? Dumb name, I know. I agree. The focus of the system is to recapture the hardcore market, while still being innovative and not losing the new audiences they've gained with the Wii. Though quite honestly, I think they could have chosen a much better name to suit the hardcore market than "Wii U." It's meant to represent "We" and "You," but... eh.
Anyway, I can honestly say, this system looks... stunning. Beautiful, to say the very least. It is definitely capable of power equal to or greater than the PS3, though nothing seems to have been tapped into yet on the "greater than" end of that. However, from Nintendo, this thing is going to amaze. The controller has been confirmed not only to have a 6.2 inch touchscreen in addition to ABXY, 2 circle pads, a D-pad, L, R, ZL, and ZR, but also a sensor bar, a camera, a gyroscope, an accelerometer, speakers, AND... nothing else. But let me tell you: It looks awesome. The system is also backwards compatible with the Wii Remote and all other accessories. I cannot wait to see what use developers can make of this. Nintendo has shown off switching a game from the big TV to the screen, using it as a second screen for gameplay, as well as changing the view in a game, this thing can do it all. Not only that, but it can also do video chats, play games like Othello, and much more!
Unfortunately, no 1st party software was announced, nor were any new Wii games announced. This means no Pikmin, no Pokémon, no nothing. There were, however, some neat tech demos, which, who knows, might become games at some point. Reggie, however, stressed that they were merely tech demos, and not actual games, enough to prevent a repeat of the still-lasting confusion that arose with Super Mario 128. There's New Super Mario Bros. Mii, which puts your Miis in with the Mario Bros. to stomp on baddies, and a few other games like Chase Mii, where one person has a bird's eye view of the screen, while four others are trying to chase them around from a normal, third-person view. There's another one involving a spaceship, and one more with a pirate, but that's enough on the tech demos. They're all pretty much the same.
But as for third party games, Nintendo seems to be following the principal of "go big or go home." Nothing announced from Rockstar, but there are plenty of games like Tekken, Ghost Recon, Assassin's Creed, Madden, and more coming to the Wii U. Now this is all the software that's been announced officially, though popping up a few times were many game logos, among which were the undiscussed Kirby Wii, Mario Party 9, Animal Crossing 3DS, and more that I can't remember. XD They also had some previously developer logos popping up, but because I haven't yet talked about the third party support, let me do so now. Pretty much all they had were big name developer logos behind them. EA, Square Enix, Capcom, and plenty more to keep your hands full, but even that news is good news. (By the way, I didn't see a Rockstar logo, nor a Valve logo. *tehsadz*)
Additionally, I'd like to talk about the graphics. I discussed them a bit, but let me say a bit more. THEY. ARE. GORGEOUS. Truly stunning. Nintendo showed a demo of a bird flying through a park. Try to find it if your can, the feathers, the cherry blossoms, the water... Everything is just absolutely magnificent.
Oh yeah, and Smash Bros is coming to both the 3DS and the Wii U, but nobody really cares about that.
