I really want a 3DS but the $250 price tag was like... yeah. Now, it is at $169.99 and that just makes me suspicious they are gonna release a 3DSi or something. The games for it look great, but I saw a trailer on Game Stop for Paper Mario 3D and it looked bad. That was my hopes and dreams. Then, they have the Kingdom Hearts 3D which I want badly. I never played a 3DS, but I heard the 3D actually gives everyone headaches, so everyone turns 3D off. The PS Vita is just plain amazing. Of course, it hasn't been released, but it just went overkill. For anyone who doesn't know: -PS3 graphics -6 Axis -Microphone -Touch Screen -Rear Touch -Backlit Screen The gimmicks I don't care for really. Super HD graphics are nice though. Also, I've been getting way more into PS and less into Nintendo. A thing that bothers me about the Vita is the backwards compatibility only working through the PSP store. That means I can't go on half.com and get a game for it for $10 or whatever. I don't have a PSP. ;[ I really want FFIV Complete and Dissidia. Vita is $250 but that seems reasonable for the power. That's just off the top of my head. Thoughts?

I'm not too hyped for the PS Vita. Sony just tries to stick with technology rather than having great titles for their handhelds. This is the same reason why I never bought a PSP. The only game I'd actually get a PSP for is Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. Nothing else is really worth it, in my opinion. Also, the Vita is in 540p. Not really PS3 graphics, and to be honest, I'm not going to get Kinect, 3DS or the Vita. xP
EDIT: Also, prices:
For Wifi - $249.99 For Wifi and that other thingy - $299.99

^This. There's no doubt that the PSV is going to be a better system, but the battle the 3DS and PSV are going to have is the same that the DS and the PSP had. The 3DS is going to get all the great games because Sony couldn't care less about the software they get. The 3DS price drop was to boost sales, since Nintendo was actually losing a ton of money on the systems, and now the sales have shot back up to what they were the second week of release. There's not going to be a new model of 3DS for a long time. And don't forget that 540p is half of 1080, which is what PS3's got. Not that good.
Now about the 3D. It actually works for a lot more people than it seems you've made it sound. Some people, like myself, don't even feel any strain after hours of gameplay with the intensity on its highest. Some can't even look at it without getting a headache. It varies person-to-person, but I've only met one person who gets a headache, one who just plain doesn't like it, and everybody else I know thinks it's fantastic and adds a lot to the gameplay. And half of those pros for PSV can't really be used. 3DS has a touch screen, but not rear touch, because that's a totally pointless gimmick; a mic; a gyroscope AND an accelerometer, so 6-axis is nothing in comparison; and a blacklit screen. On top of that, it's got GCN-level, if not better graphics.

If Nintendo already knows that people will buy their pointless reiterations I wouldn't put it past them to release a 3DSi or 3DSlite quicker, right after the initial "ooooh, aaaah" phase of the system wore off. If you're going to buy any 3DS if they come out with others just get the original, with the original DS it was so much more well built then the others, practically indestructible as far as systems go and I've never heard of anyone having a problem with them dying randomly so I'd imagine it'd work out similarly for the 3DS.
As for Sony vs Nintendo, well as everyone has pointed out they don't seem to put much effort on getting a variety of content for their systems. With the PSP they had like 8 or 10 great exclusive games but very little "else" content, the exclusives pretty much just sequels and spinoffs of their key series on the PS (often from the PS2 era). The PSP was a far superior system, but the DS demonstrated that hardware isn't everything and in the end Sony struggled because of it - most of my friends that owned a PSP used it as an mp3 player more then anything, and the PSP Go was a hopelessly pointless system (sort of like the Gameboy Micro, released towards the end of the systems life and quickly forgotten).

Screw it, the 3D hurts my eyes, and I don't prefer the titles on Play Station (some of the old school stuff was fun but I never bought a PS before) plus their prices are usually ridiculous. I'm just going to stick with my handy dandy DSlite

You guys are eventually going to want to get a 3DS. There's a slider, as I'm sure you know, so it's not like you have to play in #D. You can turn it off as easily as you can volume. Game Boy Advance 2001 (Game Boy Advance SP 2003) DS 2004 DS Lite 2006 DSi 2008 DSi XL 2009 3DS 2011 3DSi 2013 4DS December 2013 4DSi January 2014 Yeah... No. Nintendo has no plans to even think about altering the 3DS. They've said we're not going to see anything like that for another few years at the least, because their remodels were to change things the old ones did wrong, but besides battery life, there isn't really anything to change. Also 4D isn't possible. We live in the third dimension. And you can't forget this: PlayStation: 1994 PS One: 2000 PS2: 2000 PS2 slim: 2004 PS3: 2006 PS3 slim: 2009 PSP: 2005 PSP-2000: 2007 PSP-3000: 2008 PSPGo: 2009 PSPE-1000: TBA PS Vita: 2012
Nintendo's got 6 redesigns since 1980. Sony has 7 since 1994.

Nintendo's got 6 redesigns since 1980. Sony has 7 since 1994. 1.) You started with GBA at 2001 so you can't say 1980. 2.) You included consoles in the Playstation. 3.) You didn't include the Game Boy Advance Micro 4.) I've never heard of the PSPE As far as I remember with Nintendo it's always like "I got a DS:D" Now introducing the DS Lite which is way smoother and vibrant, and doesn't rape your thumb snaking in MKDS. Now introducing the DSi which has exclusive games and exclusive downloadable content. Now introducing 3DS which is so much more superior nothing else matters before it and it does everything they do anyways so it was pointless you even bought them. Why did you buy the 3DS? It just went down $90. That's about 3 games. Every time I turn around on Nintendo I feel like "why did I buy that... I could have waited..." With PSP I can't tell the difference. The Go just meant no more CD's which actually seems more like a downgrade imo. If someone wants to correct me go for it.

The NES and the Wii from what I know of were the only consoles that Nintendo ever redesigned. EDIT: Turns out that the SNES also had a redesign. and a edit to Stein's statement: Nintendo's got 9 redesigns since 1980. Sony has 7 since 1994.

Look at my original post he quoted for the handheld list. I started with GB at 1989 and he cut it off to start at GBA in 2001. The NES came out in 1985 to my knowledge anyways so what is this 1980 coming from. We are talking about handhelds anyways and progress in electronics is exponential. All of the growth from 1980-1990 is like a month in today's world of spoiled 3-year-olds and their iTouchs.
I'm really confused. Typo for 1989?
