I was approximating 1989. I'm pretty sure the Famicom came out in '82 or so. You're right that I forgot the Micro, but I just shortened your list, since the GBC and GBA are totally new systems, much like the original PSP, the original DS< the 3DS, and the Vita are.
So that's 8 redesigns. GBP makes 9, and actually, GBlite makes 10. 10 in 30 years vs 7 in 17 years.
Console redesigns are included there. But if you want to include the PSX, Sony's got 8 in 17 years. But take out the home consoles, and that's Nintendo at 8 in 22 years, and Sony at 4 in 6 years, so that doesn't help your case at all.

My case was that Nintendo likes to make handhelds obsolete with what feels like every other year now. I have more of a feeling Nintendo will do another ground breaking thing and I'll feel like I could have better spent my money whereas the might do something like make one with a Verizon contract (which if it did would be huge to me since I'm already on Verizon.) There's more to it than just the number of systems. Especially since the number game has a lot more to it than just "this many in this many years." GB to GBC being almost a decade but DSi to 3DS is a couple years. DS to DS Lite to DSi and DSi XL to 3DS in that same amount of time. It gets me paranoid.
Also, you brought up PS when I was saying the price drop was half of what made me suspicious. If the PS Vita came out and dropped in price like that I would be very paranoid they would be getting ready for a new one to come out. This sorta turned into a very legalistic battle.

The price drop was ONLY because the 3DS sales were terrible. No other reason. Nintendo has made many statements saying that there is no new model coming out any time within the next couple of years. You're fine. Besides, for all the reasons everyone before has been saying, a 3DS for $170 is probably going to be way more worth your money than a Vita for $250. Plus it's an $80 difference, with which you can buy 2 games. If you get it in a couple of months, you can get OoT3D and SM3DL.
Oh, and not to mention the DSi and DSiXL weren't in competition with each other, they were two separate models for different people. DSiXL was made mainly for old people, so they could see the screen of their Touch Generations games like Brain Age.

Well, I'm done trying to defend the PS Vita. Who voted for it anyways?

There's no need to defend it. The Vita will be a great system. It's just that when the question of one or the other arises, the 3DS wins.

The system in and of itself is not really _that_ important, it's rather which system gives you the most and best experiences - that is, the games. The games are the reason the 3DS got a poor start, but the games which will come in the future are what made me buy a 3DS. For me the 3D works without a single problem, but it's different from person to person. In any case, there's always 2D. I voted 3DS, mostly because of the games, but if you're finding more appealing games for Vita than for the 3DS, then you know what to choose
