Figured I would post something up like this in case people wanted to come here and chat about it...
Is there anyone who likes and composes hardstyle songs? I think it would be nice to have discussion threads on different genres.
It could really help out some users who want to try and compose different styles of music (be they pokémon, or not!)
So my topic and question this time is for all of the Hardstylers out there!

I like listening to the genre. But, I've never tried because I know very little about it, and don't have the right software for the style. lol

This is hardstyle, not a big fan myself but I can appreciate it, especially some of the unique synth work It's insanely popular in the Netherlands and Belgium Main characteristics: -kick drum sample with TONS of distortion on it, at it's core it's basically a simple oscillator thump-y kick and with a clicky oscillator sound, both ran through tons of overdrive. The kick normally is pitched to go with the sound, it also often trades off with the bass on the beat -Quite often written in shuffled time -Supersaws are pretty much the only lead synth sound they use, I just wish they'd be a bit more creative with the leads -They also tend to have this interesting scratchy synth sound, I think it's a synth with tons of distortion and quick pitch bending though I honestly have no clue aside form guessing I only occasionally doodle with it myself: soundcloud.com/wherewolf-therewolf/it-sounds-like-it-was-made-insoundcloud.com/wherewolf-therewolf/bon-bombs-away-feat-jackle-appIf you want I can send you the kick sample I used, the problem is that it's pretty much got a pitch itself so it's hard to use in conjunction with a bass

Anyone have some good hardstyle song recommendations?

I'm glad to see that my post is getting some attention. I hope that others can use it for reference. I will post another genre discussion next week or the week after. Depends on how popular this gets. I really think it would be good to get some sort of formal research for different styles of music going on in the forum...
Back on topic... I've known very little about Hardstyle to begin with. I only tried to compose with what I could pick apart with what I heard. I definitely like the genre and think there should be more of it, but it really is a challenge to create. Some songs have really irregular beats, and others are in standard 4/4 time. I think I'll try it in some odd time signature to hear what it would sound like.

Most Hardstyle from what I've heard is just in shuffle time, not really all that odd as far time signatures go. Just use a lot of triplets in 4/4 or put it in 12/8 time. Btw, hardstyle kick sample www.mediafire.com/?4o9t1tg3s27t89p(forgot where I got this from)

I love that kick. www.box.net/shared/349lf5juau39647ug3xeThis isn't necessarily hardstyle.

Found this on Hardstyle synths. I thought it was useful.
