This makes Team Plasma (which makes fun of PETA) look tame in comparison.

PETA wasting their time on things that don't matter in the long run of the goal they're aiming for is nothing new, why go after poachers when you can make a big public scene attacking a video a game.
PETA: Saving the world by scaring your children.

Oh I remember this. Hah.
PETA is actually more clever than we give them credit for. Allow me to explain using this as an example.
Notice how Nintendo is not suing them nor making any public comments of outrage or anything like the sort? Yeah, they not only don't care. They're probably in on this. That's just for starters. Y'know why they don't care? PETA isn't actually serious. They knew dang well their attack would backfire hard. It was a publicity stunt to begin with.
Now the obvious question is, why? It's easy. What do you think would happen if PETA just tried getting on the news and talking about endangered animals due to poaching there? If you answered "Nobody would care because we've got a truckload of bigger issues on our hands like the economy and stuff like that" you're following along nicely. You see, by pulling this publicity stunt they made their cause a whole lot more likely to even get on the news in the first place, but the public outrage in response to it got more people to think about those raccoons than anything else they could've possibly done.
PETA is an increasingly desperate organization forced to use their heads to get by in a world where most people just don't have time to care about the cause.
...Kinda makes you feel bad about insulting the company willing to sacrifice their money and reputation for the cause, eh? But it's okay, because they totally knew you would.
