I'm not a fan of those soundtracks. I like the Super Mario (Not Paper or whatever. Just Super Mario) OST, but there are SO many remixes of this game's soundtrack.

Well this forum is called the pokemon zone, so I suggest something that is to do with pokemon. Well we should lean more to the pokemon side of things than others but we can still do a project of something cool

Many of the Pokemon soundtracks sound very similar in style It's best to vary it up imo, try some other series (anyways, hadn't we planned something about R/S/E on it's anniversary or something?)

It was just a suggestion, I think. But it did sound pretty mutually agreed.
I would be up for the SMRPG OST.

Actually, the B/W soundtrack is VERY different from the usual Pokemon battle themes. So I'm actually reconsidering remixing the B/W soundtrack.

You said they sound very similar in style, yes they do but as larx said, BW is very different, and so is DP and again so is RSE. I really don't mind what we do as long as we decide on something I guess

My main problem with the B/W game is, well VG music is often associated with the experience of the game itself, people play the game and then get interested in the soundtrack, the opposite much less often occurs. Thus if you're remaking a VG track, you often want to choose something from a game you've played and enjoyed the soundtrack along with it. B/W aren't even released in English yet (and won't be for a bit longer, I have to say - that better be come GOOD localization to warrant taking that long) so few people involved have even played the game to enjoy the VG soundtrack along with it. Remixing a soundtrack from a game you haven't played just seems a bit like a shallow experience imo. Of course this may go well after the games are released to the rest of the world (and people have had sufficient enough time to play through the games themselves).

Honestly, I disagree with all of that. But that's just me. It just doesn't make any sense to me. At all. I mean, how can doing a song from a game you have played seem like you are a bit shallowed experienced? I just don't think that makes any sense. Remixing a song isn't about the game at all. It's about the song. If you've heard the song before, then that's good. If you're remixing a song you've never heard until you started arranging it, then I see what you mean. Other than that, I just don't get it.

Well I mean in general when it comes to VG remixing, I normally find I enjoy remixing a song the most when it's of a game I've played before, unless it's a song I really like even though I haven't played the game (often doesn't happen though as I don't really actively search for VG music from games I haven't played), then I'd rather then write my own music. I don't know how others work, but I figured some others feel the same way as I do in the manner and provided my personal opinion on it.
-BUT-
It's not like we've set a date for the next project anyway, and we have to finish the current one anyway before we start another so who's to say the game won't have already come out by then (when it comes to major remixing projects, idk how frequently everyone was thinking of doing them).

Well the complete lack of percussion is a start there

Towns had percussion in RBY (well, Vermillion City did, anyways), and then some dungeons too, like Pokemon Mansion and Team Rocket's Hideout. The only major difference I can tell, besides less percussion in songs, is that the "bassline" sound in RBY's music is higher pitched than GSC's. EDIT: Also, a lot of harmonies and stuff in GSC sound more complex than ones in RBY. Not saying that's a bad thing, but yeah...

Hmmm could this be perhaps due to limitations of the Gameboy as opposed to the Gameboy color? I'm not to familiar with the hardware, but limitations on the number of channels available may have been heightened in the transition, allowing for the more complex songs that followed. I'm not entirely sure what more possibilities the Gameboy color had opposed to the original Gameboy
