Technically we could make our own soundfont for the game (but that would require finding samples for instruments and whatnot, so...yeah). If not, we could just use the DS generation instruments (as in all of them; just because DPP and HGSS use, for example, different trumpet samples doesn't mean they'd really clash with each other), or even something not from Pokemon.
All that really matters is having all of the music blend with each other instrument-wise. If we can't decide on a soundfont, I'd rather just use MIDI, anyways.

Well making your own soundfont would be a good idea imo (though I still can't use soundfonts) as it'd give the game it's own characteristic sound.

Since we *could* make a soundfont, but for others just leave them as instruments. Dunno how stuff like that works, though, since I just work with MIDIs. And if everyone's worried about it sounding Pokemon-ish instrument-wise...well, RSE didn't use any of the same sounds as DP, right? And even then, HGSS and BW added new instruments, so I wouldn't really see a problem with not using the *exact* instruments from any of the official games. It'd just be the problem of finding/making sounds to use. xP

That'd be creative indeed. But, in my opinion, I think we'd be better off using the B/W soundfonts.

No, I actually agree with Jill (If I understand correctly) There no huge difference in the soundfonts of any of the DS games, so why would it matter which ones we use?
And wherewolf, what program do you use?

Pro Tools 8, the main soft synths I use in it are Xpand!2 (soft synth plugin) and Vacuum (analogue synth emulator plugin). I haven't bought any additional RTAS's for it (I've been using the ones that came with it, which also includes the Boom drum machine (don't use it much anymore, too dance oriented) and a limited form of some plugin called Metro (meh doesn't seem any better then xpand and lacks more instrument settings) so I've just been using what already came with it (including a ton of other effects and that sort of thing). But it lacks a sampler, I've also noticed that the bass sounds from the instruments included are a bit weak.

Well, this is what I have so far on the PokeMart and PokeCenter themes. I'll try to make some encounter stuff after finishing these (though I'm probably going to heavily edit/scrap them, since there's some dissonant parts that I don't like...)

Well, if you want custom soundfonts, I'm sure I can try and throw something together.

Seems like there is a bit of a hassle with instruments. It seems also that I may have to help out here.
My favourite music was from the RSE generation, it changed the tunes and added an array of instruments to the actual game. People seem to be bickering over DPPl, HGSS, and BW sound fonts, but in all honest to me thay sound the same. Hoenn is the only region sound wise that stands out I think.
I think also that having our own sound fonts may be an option, seeing as though this has an australian basis, we could add some australian instruments to the route themes.
As WolftheWolf stated, consistency with music is good, it add to the overal feel of the music and ties it all together. I like his idea of having one person mix everything together for the final edition, because of the following reasons:
1.) It gives people who do not have the capability to compose using sound fonts, to have their music match the others.
2.) It gives volume consistency. An example of this, when I downloaded the Youngster Encounter theme from Pokemonstein, I was able to hear it very well at about 40% volume, but for the PokemonCenter/Mart themes I had to increase the volume to 70%, making the Encounter theme exceptionally loud.
Now to the actual music.
Pokemonstein: To be honest, it does not sound like a Youngster Encounter theme at first, but the more I listen too it the more I found it worked. I guess that I was just so used to the DPPl and RSE sound that I was expecting them to come through remixed. But I like it.
Jill: I listened to your songs and I want to marry them. They are GREAT. I love them. The pokemon center has that "Hello, pleased to meet you, let me take your pokemon for a few seconds," feel to it, which I think is super. The mart sounds like a little bit of a twist on the traditional mediocre shopping experience.
The only small thing I found was the fact there there is about a one or two second break before they loop. Not that you notice it much.

Lol, thanks guys, but I'm not done with them yet. xD Just gotta think of counter stuff to add so it boosts volume and prevents it from sounding *empty*, plus add intros/loop stuff.
And I'm really liking the idea of having a custom soundfont/instruments, which again, the problem would be finding or making samples to use. But if we could use Australian instruments and influences, I think that'd really help with the basis of the region (though I think I'd end up overusing didgeridoos to death xD).

I got the idea from FFXIII, Taejin's Tower sounds Australian based: I also have been messing around with some free composition doftware here and there, its much hard that I assumed, some maybe I'll just let you guys compose and me do the art. rapidshare.com/files/435184400/Temple_of_Voices.mscz.midThats just a very short song that I have been messing around with. It loops.

I don't have very good soundfont capabilities but I'll still try to get an aboriginal thing going. Also, is there a deadline? I have finals so I might not finish until winter break starts.
