I think Super Mario Galaxy 2 was the best one, since the game is refreshing, and full of fun. Note: Kirby's Epic Yarn isn't released in Europe, and I'm planning on getting that DK game.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 by far. Tons of variety, good level of difficulty, good length, fantastic soundtrack, etc. It's pretty much my new favorite game ever.
Donkey Kong Country Returns was also pretty good.

Either Galaxy 2 or Epic Mickey. Epic Mickey is amazing.

My favorite game this year...hmmmm. Well, I can't really decide between HeartGold and Sonic Colors.
HeartGold was great, even though it was a remake they really made it feel fresh. Just between normal gameplay, wifi trading and battling, migration, battle frontier, pokedex filling and pokeathelon I think I played over 170 hours and I still haven't started a new game. Nostalgia was great as well as the new ideas and graphics. The soundtrack was also good and the GB Sounds item was a really cool idea. And I love having your lead pokemon follow you around like Pikachu in Yellow version.
Sonic Colors was good, great, awesome, outstanding, amazing! It's the best Sonic game since Adventure 2. Graphic are great for Wii, level design is superb, soundtrack is amazing, great combo of speed and platforming, a good challenge, simple story, great characterization, funny dialogue, good fun all around. 2 player mode is a letdown, it's really easy to hit your friend by accident and send him/her to their death. Also the boss fights are too easy, even easier than some of Sonic 2's bosses. Besides that, the game has replay value and if you collect every red ring you unlock a very special surprise...

Game of the Year was Super Mario Galaxy 2. Awesome Game, Story was nice, OST is godly, and the level-desgin is flawless.

Lol I didn't think people would be picking super mario galaxy 2, but as I look back, why wouldn't you?! For me, like half the game to me is the music. That's half the reason why I love the pokemon games, because of their awesome ost. Junicho masuda (and go ichinose) is like my idol practically. And then there's super mario galaxy 2, which is like amazing music to the supreme. Seriously, I got swept away with epic tunes such az molten melty lava galaxy or whatever the name is, and the final boss theme, and near everything else. when speaking of actual game play, it was absolutelynsuperb! Amazing level design combined with challenging gameplay and epic music makes a game that is fun to play over and over. The one thing I wish they had was a true multiplayer mode, not just costar. That would SO make the game even more epic.

Hmmm I wish I had bought more games this year, I don't have a huge selection to chose from what I've gotten..
Hmmmm it'd probably either be Super Mario Galaxy 2 or Metriod: Other M
Galaxy: Haven't played through the entire game yet, but it's amazing so far. It essentially takes the Mario Galaxy 1 formula, and leaves it exactly as it is - the additions to the game are minimal in nature, but only work to improve the experience - it's pretty much what anyone would think to do to improve the game: add yoshi, a new map system (which was pretty much taken directly from older games, mainly because it works) and new power-ups. The level design is phenomenal as always, the new galaxies always throw in something new unexplored in older games, always keeping the game fresh. The soundtrack so far is good, but doesn't strike me as amazing as the first one's soundtrack, regardless it's still great and fits the game perfectly.
Metriod: Other M I had been skeptical of this game since the start, Metriod is just an icon of nintendo as Mario is and to hand it to a company who's main work is the hack and slash gore-fest Ninja Gaiden and a fighting/volleyball/almost porn series Dead or Alive seemed like a terrible decision in my opinion, especially after the great job Retro had done on the last three Prime games. Playing the actual game averted all of that. While the game did take many more opportunities to phase out that suit covering up Samus's skin-tight "underclothing," I was surprised that Ninja actually had shown some restraint when it came to show-casing a female hero - my first fear was evaded. Second off, when playing the actual game the company took many steps to try and keep it from becoming a mundane hack and slash, with new enemies constantly coming with different strategies for taking them out, the continued reliance on projectile weapons and plenty of puzzles/obstacles (note that the puzzles weren't necessarily as clever as former games, but with more of a shift onto action that wasn't too much of a problem). If anything, the hack and slash additions actually improved the game, this is without a doubt the most "bad-ass" you've ever gotten in a Metriod game, as unloading charge shots to the face of space pirates is just plain fun. The game successfully returned to it's 2d roots while maintaining the advancements brought out by the newer 3d games. Really my only complaint about this game is the occasionally chunkiness of the controls, since you can only use missiles in first person mode and missiles are often essential to killing certain enemies you find yourself leaving yourself open to attack a lot more often then you'd like, as you can't move in this case - getting used to the remote change for the first person mode also takes some time, even once you get used to it it'll occasionally seem to not want to work for you - occasionally the game will through a "find the anomaly" type thing at you causing you to need to find something on screen with the first person mode, the problem is it gives you little clue as to what you're actually looking for, causing you to scan the screen for 5+ minutes to find whatever it was was in your face the entire time. Aside from that, it's one of the most story oriented metriods in the series and sets up the "Fusion" game, a game that had been screaming for being revisited for a while now imo

Oh God, I forgot about HGSS! How could I do that?! XD
That's also high up there, for every reason FHH said. I haven't even done much Pokédex filling or Pokéathalon games, and I've still logged nearly 400 hours. No lie.

From what I've played, my GotY would probably have to be either Samurai Warriors 3 or Metroid: Other M. Samurai Warriors 3... look for my review on the game. Metroid, wherewolf basically said everything.
