Kind of a general music appreciation thread. I'm kind of curious what styles we all prefer.
Obviously your explanations can be as thorough or short (or non-existent) as you'd like. Also, I hope mine don't bore you.
1. RSE Champion Battle - The cascading intro intensifies the setting and evokes chaos. The build is powerful and energizing, flowing naturally into the beginning of the piece. The harmonies picking up at the start of the melody are sublimely beautiful and convey an almost supernatural, kind of divine feeling to me. Enter a second phase, 0:21-0:32. A pervasive air of doubt, and then a more heartening resolution. As the song steadily makes its way toward the climax, it feels as if time and space itself revolve around this very epicenter of battle. The sounds and harmonies become dissonant and scattered. At last a sort of clarity emerges, and the majestic peak follows back elegantly into the start of the main melody again.
2. GSC Rival Battle - Starts with a somewhat menacing, almost delinquent kind of attitude, reflecting the rival's outwardly rebellious and troublemaking nature. 0:12-0:22 Suddenly an abrupt shift into minor key, a distinctly sorrowful melody. 0:23-0:33 communicates the sadness and isolation of Silver--misunderstood and a victim of complete ostracism from society, taking his troubles out on the world. 0:33-0:36 carries us into the next more upbeat phase with a beautiful counterpoint. 0:36-0:41 a descent into a major key, the final culmination of the counterpoint. 0:41+ a dramatic major key climax, indicating the inherent good and kindness present in Silver, shadowed by his exterior melancholy. The chord sequence here is simple but dramatic and uplifting. And finally the cycle begins again.
3. Route 26/27 - Secksy.
4. Violet/Olivine City - Also secksy. This and the above have nearly constant chord changes too, which makes them feel constantly fresh. Of course while R26/27 sounds sort of sorrowful, as if a grand adventure is coming to an end, Violet/Olivine sounds friendly and cheerful.
Anyway, go ahead. Don't be intimidated by how silly this sounds! D:
