So, this is not only just a forum dedicated to Pokemon, but also a forum dedicated to help new comers of composing fan-made music learn how to get better at doing so. So, I'm going to tell everyone about a program I use called "Noteworthy Composer."
You can download it here:
www.sendspace.com/file/tihj9c
This program basically reads MIDI files and displays them as notation. Not only does it do that, but it allows you to create your own MIDI files from scratch. But, it also gives you a choice of templates. The templates are: Piano, Quartet, satb (Choir format. I don't really know much about this.), Vocalacc (I don't know much about this either.), and Blank Score. I usually choose Blank Score. This is how you get to that.
File > New > Blank Score
You can enter the title and author of the song after that along with a few other copyright things.
Here are keyboard commands:
1 = Whole Note
2 = Half Note
3 = Quarter Note
4 = Eighth Note
5 = Sixteenth Note
6 = Thirt-second Note
7 = Natural Accidental
8 = Flat Accidental
9 = Sharp Accidental
(You can also use Double Sharps/Flats, but you have to click on the command for those.)
To add a new staff, you press the big Plus button.
To delete a staff, you press the big Minus button.
Here are more keyboard commands:
. = Dotted Duration
; = Slur
/ = Tie
, = Staccato
_ = Tenuto
> = Accent
Ctrl+B = Beam Notes
Ctrl+T = Triplet Selected Notes
= is grace note
k = Key Signature
m = Mute List
t = Tempo
tab = Bar Line
Space = Rest (Choose value first.)
Right-click brings up the staff properties. That's where you can add instruments and mess around with the Multi-point controller. (Used for pitch bends and volume control.) It also allows you to add dynamics and tempo variances.
That's pretty much the basics.
If you need to know anything else, just let me know!
