It wouldn't really be all that hard actually. Battles are constantly moving in the anime, but the same applies to games like KH, Star Ocean, FFXIII, Sengoku Basara. If they were to just copy something like that (More KH style though), it'd actually work. This is what I address in the second paragraph. I kinda evolved my position (no pun intended)

"Ah, so you want something that exemplifies what the anime does? I'm sure we all do. But think about how hard it would be to do. I mean, they'd have to completely revamp the battle system. Taking turns wouldn't really work; in the anime the battles are constantly moving.
I see why now that you want pokemon's perspective; that way, YOU get to choose the attacks like you're battling in real time. And that would make sense for revamping it; because then you don't need the "taking turns" system anymore. You can attack, dodge, defend, counterattack, etc. That would be pretty awesome "
Well it's not exactly the anime I'm aiming for, I really stopped caring about the anime a long time ago, but I guess that anime is a good example as instead of rigid turn by turn battles, it becomes a more fast paced free form battle - though at the same time it still requires a lot of strategy and planning, once you get things like uneven terrain, obstacles and more environmental factors involved it'd require even more strategy - it's no longer when you should use your moves, but where you should - gaining the high ground will often pay off.

Actually, a real-time battle system is exactly what I had in mind. It could work out great too, as then you rely not just on planning, but also on skill and timing. Observation would also be key in such a fight.
