I was thinking everyone work in small groups of like 2 or 3 on the tracks, so it's not just a "collect all your old pieces into some sort of project thing" type of situation hehe. It's still supposed to be a collaborative effort.

Not everyone uses FL (me included) thus I would say it's open to whatever road you want to take the piece down (soundfont or otherwise), at least have a good spread of different sound and genre types for the whole piece.
I guess it would be best to start off by choosing partners and pieces

Pro Tools 8 LE (Mbox Mini) I was originally intending to record Rock/Metal with it (thus the external Audio Digital Converter was appealing) but my computer is just to slow to get recording quality with direct input so until I get an upgrade I'm going to hold out on recording actual instruments.
Also kinda sucks as it can't use normal VST plugins, it uses exclusive RTAS (which isn't open source thus there's no free instruments) plugins unless I shell out $50 for a VST adapter plugin

If we're going to use soundfonts for a RBY soundtrack remix (especially if using the B/W, HG/SS, or D/P/P soundfonts), maybe we should go the route of a fake DS remake, like Gold and Silver got, meaning that rather than all of the tracks being rearranged with different instruments, we actually turn them into something new. That's my two cents, anyways. (Though in that sense, we'd basically be doing a DS version of FireRed and LeafGreen, but whatever)
As for soundfont programs for everyone to use, there's always SynthFont... :x

I think it'd be cool to just make it something completely new, not having to fit characteristically into any of the games specifically. But when I was first thinking of it I figured that'd be left to the people working on the individual tunes so in the end it demonstrates the diversity of musical tastes of the people within the project.

So, just making original compositions, basically?

Yes. lol So, what you are saying is arrange the R/S/E OST the way the composers did for G/S/C in the HG/SS soundtrack?

I guess so...I mean, not in the sense of copy and pasting HG/SS's music, but in the sense of taking something old and rearranging it into something new, yes. It's just an idea, anyways. If no one really wants to do it, I'm fine with whatever.

Not exactly, since the point is to remake an old track - but your free to take the sound however you feel with it - sort of like how this song has the original melody and such to it, but has been taken out of the original genre type sound of it:
But then again, if you wanted to make something that sounds like it belongs in a DS remake of the original you'd be free to do that too.
It's a remix of the songs within the soundtrack, not a revamp of the soundtrack for a new game within the series or the like. Also the new games tend to kill some of the charisma of the orginal music, the new version of Lavender town was a huge disappointment imo, too hugs and kisses this game is definitely for young children type sound, lacked all the chill the original one encompassed.

I would be so for this but is there a problem with me being the odd one out with Finale? I can make MIDIs and receive MIDIs but beyond that I know nothing.
